ANCIENT TIMES

TITLE: The
Study of the Human Body in the Ancient Times
RESEARCH QUESTION:
There is great curiosity in the study of the human body in the ancient times.
How do medical doctors do their experiments or surgeries without the presence
of technology? This question prompted yourstruly to do more research on the
subject.
INTRODUCTION:
Study of human body is a difficult kind of work. You need to research a
hypothesis, facts, and evidences that meets to the needs of your experiment.
This study needs more focused and strengths to perform. During ancient times
scientists do their experiments in animal bodies or either in dead people but
studying the human body is a challenge to whoever is researching about it.
BODY: During
ancient times many of our ancestors learn to study different creatures. Upon
reading the article The Study of Anatomy based on essay of Dr. Beth Haris and
Dr. Steven Zucker, it tells that study of human body have been develop and they
uses such strategies for their studies.”Sculpture from ancient Greece and Rome
reveal that classical artist indicate these artists used models to help them study
the details of the body in the way that it looked and moved. These artist tried
to show their views that they understood the systems of muscles beneath the
skin. The best way to learn human anatomy is not just to look at the outside of
the body, but to study anatomy through dissection. Renaissance artist were
anxious to gain specialized knowledge of the inner working of the human body
which allow them to paint and sculpt the body in many different positions. The
artist of the Early Renaissance artist used specific tools to make their art
naturalistic more like real life.” We would think that it’s impossible because
during those times people are lack of sources and knowledge medically right?
But, in the blog of Elizabeth Robert MA/CPC in August 20, 2011 The Human
Dissection from Galen to the Great
Revelations of Andreas Vesalius, she stated that “Human have been cutting open
cadavers and dissecting corpses almost since the beginning of recorded in human
history. Ancient Egyptians went to great lengths to mummify their body,
including cutting open bodies, dissecting out organs and preserving remains.”
During those times a lot of people were curios and these studied about thing
such as Leonardo Da Vinci (1489-1515). He dissected 30 bodies and drew 750
sketches revealing knowledge about bone structures, muscles etc. William Harvey
(1628) wrote a book explaining the circulation of blood and Galen of
Perganon(1029) who considered as one of the greatest ancient physician after
Hippocrates, who made vast achievements in the understanding of the heart, the
nervous system and the mechanics of breathing. After few years many medical technologies
were being invented. During 1661 Marcello Malphigi invented the microscope that
invertebrates do not use their lungs to breath but small hole in their skin
called tracheae, 1674 Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek he also invented his own
handicrafted microscope to observe and describe microorganism and 1895 Wilhelm
Conrad Rontgen invented the X-ray, Raymond Damadian discovered the Magnetic
Resonance Imaging(MRI) use to generate image of your body. CT Scan (1972)
invented by two scientist working independently British Engineer Godfrey
Hounsfield of EMI Laboratories in England and South African born physicist
Allan Cormack of Tuft University in United States, this is useful getting
detailed 3D images of certain parts of the body such as soft tissue, blood vessel
and brain. But these inventions have only one purpose that is to help people to
know what illnesses and to improve our study and our health institutions. This
proves that even in ancient time people already employs technology in their
study of human bodies. This technology is continuously improved until now.
CONCLUSION:
The study of human body is a complicated process during the ancient times until
the present days and it is continuously being developed because of the use of
modern technologies and the presence of many sources and facilities that can
improve the studies. We have different scientists and professors that are still
motivating students on how human anatomy is important into our society this
study is a great help to each and everyone of us. It help us to be aware and
familiar about our body and all we need to do is have more practice and
learning about it.
